Ben joined Dr. Geoffrey O'Loughlin as co-presenter of the DRAINS workshops in 2013 with considerable experience in the areas of urban development, stormwater design, on-site detention and undertaking flood studies. Having worked in both the private and public sector, Ben's experience also extends to water sensitive urban design, water harvesting and filtration, and several other multidisciplinary projects.

Commencing in 2019, Ben has taken on the role of managing Watercom, providing support to customers and continuing the development of DRAINS. Since March 2022, Watercom Pty Limited transferred the ongoing development, sales and support of the DRAINS, PIPES and PIPES++ software to Kustom Engineering Pty Ltd T/a Watercom, led by Dr. Benjamin Kus.

Ben has completed a PhD in Engineering - Membrane Technology and Water Harvesting and is a published author with over 20 journal papers.

He is a contributing author of the Australian Rainfall and Runoff 2019 guidelines having authored Chapter 5 ‘Stormwater Conveyance’, in Book 9 ‘Runoff in Urban Areas’.

Frequently Asked Questions


When does the course start?
An introduction email will be sent through with instructions and some questions about the configuration of your course and intended course start date. Typically, the course can be up and going within 2 business days.
How long do we have access to the course?
Access is 12 months from the date your organisation receives the unique registration link and code
Do we get a DRAINS Training License?
No, the Corporate Packages are created for organisations that already have adequate DRAINS Licensing.
What are the minimum DRAINS Licensing requirements for the course?
Most examples will require access to at least DRAINS 50 Links (which includes the Full Unsteady Hydraulic Model - formerly called Premium). Some examples may additionally require access to the Storage Network Routing modules to access additional hydrology models such as RAFTS, RORB & WBNM.
Do Participants Receive Certificates?
Yes, each student will register and track progress of their own account. On completion of their course, each participant receives a Certificate of Completion with 15 Hours CPD
Can I pay without a credit card?
Yes. Please enrol using the 'Enrol & Pay via Invoice' button, where you will be directed to complete and submit an enrollment form. On receipt of the form, Kustom Engineering will issue a Tax Invoice that can be paid via direct transfer. The User will need to created an account under the School of Kustom Engineering, then on receipt of payment, the purchased course will be added to the User's account.
What if E-Learning is not for our organisation?
Once your first participant has completed Chapter 2, if your organisation feels that E-Learning is not suitable, we offer a full refund, less fees for printed notes and for the number of participants who have started the ARR Seminars.
